What could be more radical than boycotting alcohol, drugs and cigarettes? An exciting, in-depth look at sobriety and its role as a radical alternative to the dominant culture, from the perspective of an Anarchist (rather than a dogmatic straight edge person). Instead of expounding on the idea that everyone should have a "clean body and mind", this zine draws links from intoxication straight to the heart of corporate culture take-over, oppression of women and minorities, and accountability in activist communities. There are two interesting personal stories of radical communities addressing or not addressing safe space for sober souls and I was quite enthused to read that the Zapatistas do not allow alcohol into their camps
A zine to act as a companion to "Brew Not Bombs".

"If you prefer to believe that you have been given the final answers to the assassination of President Kennedy, don't read this book. Otherwise you are in for an unsettling experience..in the highest tradition of journalism." -Edwyn Silberling
A step by step analysis of Lee Harvey Oswald's movements and Kennedy's assassination. Simple, easy reading that will leave you frustrated and scratching your head. THIS COPY IS USED
Uncle Enos #2 is another look at musicians who've made their own instruments. Author Shane Speal, employee at the Cigar Box Guitar Museum, digs up old forgotten articles and interviews homemade instrument legends. This issue has interviews with Canray Fontenot a cigarbox fiddle player, Cooper Moore a bass diddleybow player, and Chris Ballew of Presidents of the United States of America. Also, there's detailed instructions for building a replica of Eddie "One String" Jones' Diddleybow. The feature article is all about Don "Boz" Bostwick, godfather of the cigarbox guitar, in memory of his passing away in 2007. This zine is thorough and interesting for DIY instrument enthusiasts, but is definitely a portal into a whole new world for those who are unfamiliar.
A Canadian political journal that's always thought provoking. It always teaches me something new every time I pick it up! In this issue: Clayton Thomas Muller on environmental justice, Kara Gillies on sex worker organizing, Chris Harris on gangs and the new black working class, Nava Etshalom and Matthew N. Lyons on labor Zionism, Tom Keefer on direct action at Six Nations, Kole Kilibarda on the campaign against Israeli apartheid, a roundtable on labor for Palestine, a roundtable with migrant labor organizers, and book reviews!
Surprisingly, we don't have another zine that focuses on this subject. Lots of people will go dumpster dive (and train hop) without appropriate information. Mostly you are lucky, but if you aren't smart you could get sick or arrested! This zine tells you how to go about getting food, what kind of food to look for, what to do with it (recipes! canning! trade!) and the typical shelf life of specific items. A sweet, easily navigatable zine, perfect for the fledgling punk rocker or anarchist!
The history of the Wimmins Fire Brigade and other armed groups. A solid evaluation of a group of Canadian women who carried out a series of bombings to oppose the institutions of war and patriarchy. This is the account of the politics and practice, successes and errors of the Five and their supporters. A humble, forthright telling.
A master chronicle of Washington's deepest secrets, producing an investigative record of the CIA's turbulent years under the late William Casey; a bluff, wide-ranging, impatient, daring, purposeful, enthusiastic, patriotic, secretive, cunning, and deceptive man. It talks about the power struggles from inside and outside the CIA. THIS COPY IS USED.
A zine about the current wave of feminism for coming of age grrrls. This cute little pocket zine (without cute contents) bridges second and third wave feminism by dealing with LGBT language, useful herbs growing in the Northwest, famous men's view on women throughout the ages, a culture jammers manifesto, some potion recipes (aka alcoholic drinks), a little bit of poetry and more. My favourite piece is commentary with intense, funny and somewhat shocking clippings of death and injury warning product labels, and the tongue-in-cheek way the author suggests to do these things, due to the fact that some people don't want us to have access to safe abortions. It's a really clever, dark way to get the point across. This spring issue comes with a packet of seeds!
Stevie is Buddhist and these are his stories. He loves his friends, travels the country and the world around, experiences racism, refines his dharma practice, his zine serving an educational journey into the mind of a very open person. It was a refreshing read because it is quite unique in terms of zine culture.
For all you kids who think pop punk began when Blink-182 took over the radio, pick up a record from a band who's been turning out fun, catchy tunes since before you knew punk rocked. Not only is Weston a good-hearted group of boys from Lehigh Valley, PA who sing about high school crushes ( "Teenage Love Affair", "Varsity Sweater") and know how to turn that frown upside down with hilarious songs like "Retarded", they also tug on the heart strings with sweet, clumsy boyishness in "New Shirt" and "Heartbreak Sandwich". Everyone should own a copy of Got Beat Up and should play it all the way through at least fortnightly.
This album brings back all the greatest memories of high school. The good times and the bad are felt throughout the album. There is nothing better than mid era Weston when it comes to the uncommercialized sides of punk. If you listen to them, you are a part of them. Just wish James didn't take over the band...
This contains extensive interviews with female activists in Palestine, Indonesia, and The Phillipines. Very good for perspective and remembering that activism is not limited to academics and punk kids.
We feel very lucky to have gotten Wiley's permission to sell her wonderful zine! This is a great how-to guide for the first-time traveler! And a good refresher on etiquette for the seasoned traveler too. Wiley lays out the basics on what to bring, who to bring, staying healthy, romance, and more. This zine is matter-of-fact, and doesn't over-glorify traveling, which is refreshing. It's the straight facts about drinking, drugs, dogs, cops and how to be generally considerate while on the road. I hope the next time I find someone on my porch, they've read this zine!
A celebration of the White Rose, an anti-Nazi resistance group best known for distributing leaflets against the Nazi's and painting anti-Hitler graffiti around Munich.
Hans Scholl and Alexander Schmorell acted alone at first, writing and duplicating an editorial leaflet with the heading: "Leaflets of The White Rose". The piece was scathing in its criticism of every-day Germans who sat back and did nothing to combat the Third Reich. The leaflet went on to suggest passive resistance as the best way to silently encourage the downfall of the government. Three more leaflets quickly appeared, all with the same heading: "Leaflets of The White Rose". Each of these documents was more hard-hitting than the last, while more and more friends of Hans and Alex began to contribute. Two final leaflets appeared, one in January 1943 and the last around February 18th. These were headed "Leaflets of the Resistance"..
The members of The White Rose worked day and night, cranking a hand-operated duplicating machine thousands of times to create the leaflets which were each stuffed into envelopes, stamped and mailed from various major cities in Southern Germany. Recipients were chosen from telephone directories and were generally scholars, medics and pub-owners (which seemed to puzzle the Gestapo -- but who better to spread the word or post a leaflet!). While Hans and Alex alone drafted the first four leaflets, they counted on Christoph Probst to comment and criticize. Jürgen edited the third and fourth leaflets and traveled to Berlin with the dangerous documents. Willi contributed to the fifth leaflet and did a generous amount of leg-work, getting supplies and trying to recruit support outside of Munich. Sophie worked hard at getting stamps and paper (one couldn't buy too many stamps at one place without arousing suspicion) and also managed the group's funds. Kurt Huber contributed to the fifth leaflet and solely drafted the sixth (and final) leaflet, while Hans was apprehended with a rough-draft of a seventh leaflet written by Christoph Probst. All members traveled throughout Southern Germany (and beyond) to mail stacks of leaflets from undetectable locations. Hundreds of leaflets were also left at the University of Munich, carefully hand-delivered in the middle of the night.

This is the report of the President's commission on to the assassination of John F Kennedy. It's a part of a series of books analying the transcripts of language used by people within the US gov't surrounding the assassination. This book begins to answer questions such as: Did JFK's accused assassin serve federal spooks? This was an early sensational report from Dallas. Here for the first time is the full inside story, in the top secret words of the Warren Commissioners themselves, of how they conspired to cover up the whole thing, to hide the truth they hoped forever, to protect the CIA and FBI. THIS COPY IS USED.
The Warren Commission listened to hundreds of witnesses, took down thousands of pages of testimony. Now their report is out - and the conclusion is the same as the snap judgment announced by the police immediately after President Kennedy's assassination. What are the facts that the Warren Commission did not probe? Was there a sinister conspiracy so powerful it could muzzle the police and the press of Dallas? In this book a fearless newspaperman reveals the startling possibility that the murderers of the President have got off scot free. THIS COPY IS USED.
Walk into any racially mixed school and you will see black youth seated together in the cafeteria. What is going on here? Is this self-segregation a problem we should try to fix, or a coping strategy we should support? How can we get past our reluctance to talk about racial issues? With a new compelling introduction by the author, this book provides us with a new framework for thinking and talking about race. THIS COPY IS USED
George's zine is a series of cute pictures and a few words that either make you laugh, smile, or sad. He's very good at invoking emotions. Some issues have stories that continue across a few pages but for the most part each page tells its own story. The first time I read this I was utterly in love and awe.
A book of postcards honoring 32 extraordinary women of history and today. The 30 cards bear rich duotone images of individuals who each made a positive difference in the world, for women and men alike. Included is an introduction and short biographical information on 32 remarkable women everyone should know.
This is a collection of works on how to avoid work or to work very little to get by. Even conclusions about what would happen if everyone stopped working.
A split issue of two Australian zines, "Westside Angst" and "You." The You. side is a bunch of letters about heavy metal, including one about extreme head-banging. The Westside Angst side is dedicated to Motorhead and breaks down the author's favorite songs. He explains what they mean, and what life lessons you can learn from them. Who knew that the song Rock and Roll had so much in common with the theories of Judith Butler?
This well written and well documented pamphlet is a critique of the use of violence as a political tactic. Claimed as one of the most important anarchist pamphlets written in the latter part of the 20th century, this reviewer has some reservations. An important contribution to the debate nevertheless. This essay was published as a pamphlet around late 1978 or 1979, in the aftermath of the Sydney Hilton Bombing. The black humour of the time around the anarchist movement was that the police and security forces framed Ananda Marga because they came before Anarchism in the alphabet. The arguments in this pamphlet are still as valid today as when they were written 20 years ago. -Anarres Books Collective
