Chickenhed Zine and Roll #5 44 pages, 1/2 size, copied (3 oz) * OUT OF STOCK *

The Josher tells you about his trips to various places mixed in with funny things like haikus. A lot of stories revolve around the absurd things that happen at work or jokes that backfire and him finally moving to Richmond with his longterm girlfriend. Josh has an excellent ability to tell stories and a sense of humor which makes his zine work very well. A large part of this issue is his tale of woe: quitting smoking and how he felt like a hypocrite for putting it off so long. He talks about the new ?crazy? things he does after quitting smoking like feeling strong all the time and riding his new bike (after giving it an appropriate make over). He also talks about his dad coming to terms with being queer and their talk about it on his 21st birthday (a great heartwarming story). Also includes stories of his ?crack head neighbor? which makes for some interesting reading. Overall, this zine is great for entertainment value. I read it front to back in one sitting and this is a pretty large issue. Not related to the band of the same name.

Citizen Cohn: The Life and Times of Roy Cohn (6 oz) * OUT OF STOCK *

Roy was J. Edgar Hoover's right hand man. He was a prosecutor, a power broker, a Presidential adviser, oppertunist, political fixer, and an enigma. He is pictured in so many history books but never identified in the captions. He has been celebrated, loathed, and feared. He setup secret deals with the FBI and Senate investigation committees. He had a massive crusade against gay rights and then a double life as a fragrant, promiscuous homosexual party-goer. He of course denied all of this until the day he died of AIDS. The full story of Roy Cohn. Another piece of forgotten history. THIS COPY IS USED

Crossing the Line DVD: Journey to Awareness (5 oz) $9.00

"Crossing the Line" tells the story a group of Richmond, CA, high school students as they learn about and attend the annual protest at Fort Benning, GA, to shut down the School of the Americas. The SOA is a training camp for foreign armies to perform acts of terrorism on their populations or to depose disagreeable politicians.

The students filmed and produced the documentary, so this is a record not only of an important political action against a terrifying dirty little military secret, but also of the students' awakening consciousness about the issue and about the nature of filmmaking. Very moving, and including interviews with line-crossers Guadalupe Chavez and Linda Aguilar, and Pete Seeger.

Def Sentence CD 25 tracks, CD (4 oz) $8.00

A collection of spoken word and hip hop tracks about the prison industrial complex. This has been assembled as a benefit CD for Portland's Books to Prisoners, a DIY anarchist group who sends literature to prisoners (political and non) and works to make them more literate. Many people don't seem to make the connection that many people in prison have more time than they know what to do with and it can be a great time to become educated through zines or books and develop a hardened political ideology. Standouts on this disc include Angela Davis, Assata Shakur, Jack Tafari, Ward Churchill, and many more!

Democratic Uprising in Burma poster 11x17", offset (1 oz) $4.00

On August 8th, 1988, hundreds of thousands of workers, students, monks, mothers, and children gathered in the streets all across Burma to demand an end to the brutal military dictatorship. Many carried photographs of Aung San, who had fought for and realized Burmese independence from British colonialism. As a response, the military junta sent troops to quell the uprising and in the following weeks 10,000 people were murdered. Thousands fled across the border into Thailand to gain refuge. Others joined rebel armies and took up arms to protect their people and fight for freedom. 8.8.88 made visible the resistance against the military and has become an enduring symbol of the Burmese struggle for democracy.

Dismantle #2: My Other Brother 54 pages, 1/4 size, copied (3 oz) * OUT OF STOCK *

A true, therapeutic story of a brother who rebelled against his family after a rough childhood, became quite abusive, fought with his parents, and eventually joined the military. No one quite knew how to socialize with him in a healthy way anymore as he had become so distant. This zine isn't about the answers as much as it is about trying to find them and dealing with the situation and feelings at the time. Something that perhaps everyone could relate to in their own way.

Fascism and Big Business 28 pages, 1/2 size, copied (2 oz) * OUT OF STOCK *

Daniel Guerin's classic work, first published in French in 1936, shows how fascism, far from being an aberration of mass psychology, arose from the specific conditions of a social system in crisis. At first covertly, then increasingly openly, layers of big business financed and promoted the fascist movements in Italy and Germany. Guerin contrasts the fascists' initially radical anticapitalist demagogy with their moves to shore up the capitalist profit system once they form the government. "The profound causes that drove the Italian and German industrialists to bring fascism to power may produce the same effects elsewhere," Guerin concludes.
