An inspiring and captivating read from Joshua Ploeg (Behead the Prophet, Mukilteo Faeries, Lords of Lightspeed, and much much more!). Learn about his history and plenty of stories about absurd performance art and band concepts that he acknowledged as a joke and subjected audiences to in Olympia, Seattle, and on tour! Joshua is now a touring vegan chef (see "Thinkin, Stinkin, Rarely Drinkin Microcosm Tour 2006") and we get to learn about all of his post punk roots here. The stories are funny - some successes, some failures, some misunderstood efforts, but it's great to hear about his mom worried people hurting him as the audience piled on him in full costume while singing for Behead the Prophet or the inside joke story behind a flyer design concept. We get to learn how some jokey concepts originated as harmless words on a flyer that transformed into a collaborative band or performance piece. My favorite is the show celebrating all of the characters who frequently attend shows but don't perform themselves to have an opportunity to do something for an audience. A true genius, that Mr. Ploeg.
Joshua Ploeg is a touring post-punk vegan chef and these are his harried tales of travelling the greyhound with sex crazed teenagers, shaving cactus with dull knives, being drugged by his hosts, eating at shitty restaurants, cooking for "artists", bad sexual experiences, a fellow bus passenger that stole a gatorade and delayed the whole bus, and much more. Joshua deals with the most unpredictable of circumstances in his touring - navigating new towns, acquiring groceries, unknown kitchen appliances and utensils, and unpromoted shows. Far more wide reaching variables than any other kind of touring apparatus that I can think of.
Traveling chef Joshua Ploeg (Plague) of Behead the Prophet, No Lord Shall Live/Mukilteo Fairies/Ravenna's Secret Cafe presents 80 new and delicious, gourmet vegan recipes. Joshua is the epitome of the post-punk ethic manifest into his passion; travelling the country on busses and trains he presents gourmet dinner parties for you and your friends presented out of his backpack, circumventing the corporate route of disseminating his food, recipes, and love.
This collection in particular is primarily spicy recipes and beverages (fire and ice, eh?) - blazing tofu, curried pineapple cream cheese, chicken yassa, garlic linguine, pineapple gazpacho with dates, blackeyed pea salsa, curried banana sandwhiches, spicy basil turnip and tofu, iced tea with mango syrup, numerous alcoholic drink recipes, and much much more! A fun little foray into the world of punk rock's gourmet chef!
