"a comic book about boyfriends" This is a compilation of comics by Robyn Chapman from 2004-2005 filled with comics about love and sex from high school romance involving a boyfriend with parents who owned a coffee stand to the sparks of college dorm romance. A cute read that leaves me wanting more.
A new comic by Robyn Chapman (matching jackets), Sourpuss is a semi-autobiographical look at being a teen in far-flung Talkeetna, Alaska. It's everything being a teenager in an isolated place means: being a high school loner with a few good friends, wandering around thrift stores, booking shows that no one comes to, and getting excited when Nirvana plays at the school dance. This comic, although sad at times, is still more sweet than sour.
Sourpuss is Robyn Chapman's semi auto-bio comic about growing up as a teenager in isolated Alaska. It's about reflecting on being a punk and a weirdo in a place where there aren't a lot of other weirdos to hang out with. Issue #2 focuses mainly on that small town conundrum of dating all your friends because there's no one else to date, and the awkwardness that ensues. This issue features a cameo by Fugazi...(it's still a cameo even in a comic right?) and copious amounts of Jolt cola are consumed.
When I first pulled this thick book out of the Microcosm submission box I wasn’t sure if this sort of comic compilation would fit in with the rest of the things in our catalog. So, I started reading and some how a few hours passed and I had read every single comic in this compilation. Rarely does something keep me that interested. This is a big book that describes itself as “a collection of autobiographical sex stories” Apparently all these stories are true and range from graphic to cute from childhood to adulthood and through a large spectrum of human sexuality by over 50 different comic artists. So many different styles and perspectives are represented that there should be something of interest for everyone.
