Placenta #1 photocopied, b&w (3 oz) * OUT OF STOCK *

This zine is self described a "punk rock/vegan parenting zine" and it is. This amazing zine by Rosa-Maria contains home birth stories by her and her husband, Dave. Article on being a thrifty Momma, what it means to be a punk mom, top 5 albums to listen to with little humans, recipes, submissions, resources for punk parenting and more. This is a great zine about raising little punks, and keeping your values, and creating new ones in your own family and community. In my opinion, the best way to spread DIY ethics is to foster it in all aspects of your life. Raising children with these values is about the most punk thing I can think of. It made me laugh, cry, and smile. (Alex Wrekk

Portland Amusement zine 24 pages, b&w, 1/2 size, deluxe cover! (4 oz) * OUT OF STOCK *

"Portland Amusement" provides a nice little escape from the blase, boozy, hipster-oriented PDX of modern times, reflecting on the city's rich history of beaches, roller coasters, fun houses, dance halls, and other fantastic amusements. Composed of pictures and antique quotations defiantly lifted from a local historic society, the reader is captivated by weird tales of a stunt man who performed with "his clothes in A MASS OF FLAME", a pesticide fountain, rollerskating marathons, and people actually swimming in the Willamette (!!). Great for history geeks, Portlanders, young and old alike.

Portland Radical History Bike Tour audio cassette/zine (4 oz) * OUT OF STOCK *

Kim Fern and Erin Yanke created a historical document about Portland's radical past. The original tour was an event during the zine symposium where everyone rode their bikes around town as Kim explained the radical significance of various buildings or parts of town. This tape contains live recordings of those talks and narrations in between. There's also an accompanying zine where you can read along and learn about things not covered on the tape. Stories of IWW scuffles with their employers, underappeciated women in Portland history, Emma Goldman's visits, Black Panthers' activities, and the cities' attempts to stifle anarchist thought. Also includes linocut printed beautiful covers. The best part is that it's a benefit for our local community-based non-profit bike shop.

Power of a Question #6 off-set press (6 oz) * OUT OF STOCK *

This zine has absolutely stunning layouts. Many of the pages have 3 dimensional fold outs that transport you into a little world where you read Brian's letters, learn about his depression, hear about the parties he went to, and experience his stories. The whole zine is quite arty and I'm making an educated guess that it was a project of sorts for Evergreen College in Olympia, WA; though don't let that make you assume it's terribly collegiate, because it's not.

Prepubescent 36 pages, b&w, 1/2 size (2 oz) * OUT OF STOCK *

Can puberty be funny without laughing at a pre-teen's expense? Major hollywood pictures would tell you no. But Prepubescent argues otherwise. It's not overtly political or anything, just a bunch of comics written by a mom, about her son's transition into adulthood. Still, it comes from an often overlooked perspective: One of understanding. The author states that the questions her son asks are questions we've all asked...that people will laugh with him, not at him. And I think it's true. It's pretty easy to get confused about your body. Some topics discussed include wet dreams, do women poop and pee out the same hole, and do boys get their period.

Prepubescent 38 pages, 1/2 size (2 oz) * OUT OF STOCK *

Here's a zine that's a bit off the beaten path. It's a mother writing and drawing comics about her son's awkward transition in teenager-dom. It chronicles voice changes, questions about penis size/what's normal, and a funny comic on the anatomy of a peeing woman. Women don't actually pee and poop out of the same hole! Crazy, but true. There's also a bit about wet dreams, boobs, and periods, but addressed from the perspective of a young boy on the verge of puberty. So many of the body-issue zines out there seem to be for women and girls. It's cool to see one that both young boys and parents can relate to.

Ptbh! #10 photocopied, b&w (2 oz) * OUT OF STOCK *

Rex is a great storyteller and has plenty to write in his zine. I'm actually normally let down that they end so soon. #9 covers Rex's move from Pensacola to Seattle and the adventures he encountered after arriving trying to find employment and housing. #7 covers living in Alaska and working at various odd jobs with very small text.

Q is for Treason 43 pages, b&w, 1/2 size (2 oz) $3.00

Q is for Treason is a bike touring zine like none I've encountered. Reece goes tripping for a few weeks in Western Canada along re-purposed train tracks, much of which have been converted into dirt paths, or gravel. The signs are sparse, the trail nearly impossible to follow, and there's a little more bear dung than I'd be comfortable with. Q is for Treason is a pretty straightforward travelogue, but the visits to ghost towns and encounters with llamas keep this addictive to read. Ooh, and it comes with a free button you can wear! Each copy comes with a button featuring a photo of the former railroad tracks turned trail from Reece's trip!

Querencia #6 68 pages, 1/2 size, copied (3 oz) * OUT OF STOCK *

"One more cup of coffee for the road." this is like an ongoing dialog between two of my favorite zine kids, JB and Jeff Otaku. The story is told through JB's internal monologue exploring ideas and experiences through music. Thoughts on passing time and growing older and watching friends grow older, heartache and coming to the end of school and asking "now what?" Jeff and JB set out to attend a Mike Watt show from Ottawa to Montreal and back again. The story jumps from dialog to flashback in such a conversational tone it makes you feel like you are perched in the backseat hearing the words mix with the music on the stereo.

Radical Pet Zine 24 pages, 1/2 size, copied (2 oz) * OUT OF STOCK *

An short, yet in depth look at the relationships between humans and their pets, specifically dogs and cats. Margaret dispels much of the human myth about dog behavior, explains how to calm down dogs, or what they are trying to communicate to us (generally) unsuccessfully. She also talks about vaccinations and how they are unnecessary and unhealthy for animals for the most part after initial shots, how cats are natural carnivores and shouldn't be made vegan, absurd consumer trends, and generally how to live a happy and healthy co-existence with pets (your own or other people's).

Radio Riot #1-36 192 pages, full size, newsprint (10 oz) * OUT OF STOCK *

This hefty tome compiles all 36 issues of Radio Riot, from 1991-1994. Many issues were just a single page, front and back and established that as a viable format for other zines (like Chumpire). The content is historical covering notable things that Matt did, shows he attended, funny records that were released, his time spent working at a record store, and just hearing about Matt's daily life. Because the zine was monthly, you get frequent updates into his life and a good span of coverage, following the story as it develops.

Religion and the Racist Right (14 oz) * OUT OF STOCK *

According to Paul Barkun, many white supremacist groups of the radical right are deeply committed to the distinctive but little recognized religious position known as Christian identity. Resistance of Dreams #1 52 pages, 1/2 legal, copied, screenprint cover (4 oz) $2.00

Adult reflections on the things that affect us all so much in our punk youth - the first trips to the inner city punk show from the suburbs and first encounters with panhandlers and the homeless. Geoff's musings are equally entertaining and compelling when he's talking about hopping trains (the myth vs the reality of a slow train), the allure of West Philadelphia punk houses and beautiful people, radical gender queering, and the doozy - the downfall of a longtime punk squat in Copenhagen! Bonus quotes from Eugene Debs, Bikini Kill, and Jeff Ott.

Revolutionaries zine 140 pages, 1/2 size, offset (6 oz) * OUT OF STOCK *

It’s hard to pin down what exactly makes Revolutionaries such a captivating little booklet, but here in all its glory is a time capsule of vivid photos from 1960s radicalism—from the Black Panthers to the Weather Underground to the gay rights movement—all hand cut and pasted together in DIY zine fashion. Far from a piece of 60s nostalgia, Revolutionaries mixes famous reprints with more obscure imagery, and is offset by handset text that rings with a renewed sense of urgency for our troubled times. All told, Revolutionaries forms a captivating snapshot of the spirit and rawness of the 1960s: part coffee-table book, part bathroom reading, ALL essential people’s history.

Dominic has been collecting historic photos of radical movements and pasting them together with sticky lettered captions as long as I can remember. This is a new, huge collection of his work - from student movements, to the Black Panthers, to the Weather Underground, to the feminist movement, standing up against police brutality, Abbie Hoffman quotes, the anti-war movement in Vietnam and beyond, unarresting tactics, The Diggers, The Chicago 8, The Cantonville 9, The Yippies, and much much more. A crucial resource book and conversation piece for your kitchen table.
