Sweet Shop Syndicate Zine 24 pages, 1/2 size, copied (2 oz) * OUT OF STOCK *

I can't resist a witty interesting zine put out by British people. "Sweet Shop Syndicate" is like "Tape of Scary Noises" in that it has a bunch of diverse subject matter and forms of writing - all really enjoyable to read. There's 3 stories about train travel (Europe, Tokyo, London during the train station bombings), crazy and shocking stories of scars, finding out the company you temp for is evil, getting into art school (with a very funny cartoon to accompany), bikes, a sweet "garden news" profile and a couple of more cerebral arty pieces. This is a nice little zine for those with short attention spans and good to pack with you on public transit.

Taking Back the Night photocopied, b&w (2 oz) * OUT OF STOCK *

NH has written a zine so full of excitement and scariness like I have never before seen. It?s about alien abductions, written through the author?s personal experiences. It starts out with a disclaimer for the graphic images and another disclaimer taking no responsibility for potential bad dreams. Then it goes on to describe how the text of the zine has disappeared three times before being able to make it into zine format. If that?s not gripping enough, the next 29 pages contain detailed abductions that have continually happened to NH over 2 years. As this isn?t scary enough, the background images will be enough to keep you turning the pages (and not sleeping at night). I love that Taking Back the Night is written as a personal zine and not a sci-fi information zine. No solutions are offered and it doesn?t ?alienate? those who don?t believe in the paranormal, because it appears the author has a hard enough time believing it as well. Don?t read this zine if you are prone to nightmares. Read this zine if you?re drawn to the paranormal, or just want to know more or read an abnormal zine topic.

I liked it alot! Very short, and creepy, but somehow the author adds a little but of humor. Still, I had a hard time sleeping that night, and I'm not ... tmunayy

Tape of Scary Noises Zine 96 pages, 1/2 size (A4), copied (0 oz) * OUT OF STOCK *

Tijs is a Belgian with an affity to Spanish culture putting together a unique and unusual gathering of stories and thoughts. Lots of musing about growing older in a punk/untraditional lifestyle, problems with girls, life's strange turns and death. There's also things just for fun: Chinese jokes (which I really dug), a story of the Cult on tour, a reprint of bizarre exchanges on a sex chat room. There's also the story of Nintendo (not for shareholders!), Terry the Picklepacker and reviews of caffeine. But it doesn't stop there! Also thrown into the pile are silly posi band interviews and music rants. Despite English being a second language this zine reads well, with insight, seriousness and humour that mixes smooth like peanutbutter and chocolate.

The Stranger Steals - Goals of Misbehavior CD 11 songs, CD (5 oz) * OUT OF STOCK *

Musically, this band is reminiscent of British rock with some galloping beat thrown in a bit. If you are a fan of the Canadian rock band Styx, you will probably enjoy the vocal stylings of The Stranger Steals. Lyrics are quite "arty" but are a delicious compliment to the strange music.

Hipster rock-n-roll in the vein of a mix of Monorchid, Joy Division, Dianno-era Iron Maiden, and The Germs! This really does rock hard with no traces of pretension.
