Pin #007: Make Up Is Ugly 1" (0.10 oz) * OUT OF STOCK *

Make up is the notion that we are not beautiful on our own - we need this purchased substance; this product to make us beautiful. Granted, this issue is far more complex and certain radical groups have managed to reclaim the concept of make-up. This is not an attack of them or an ignorant statement ignoring them, it's a statement about mainstream society intending to spread awareness and self assuredness.

I'm tired of women who get all cocky about their beauty when they wear makeup. Just when a guy thinks a girl is hot, he is wrong. One day he might see her without makeup and he will go, "Yuck! That's ugly!!! Is that her?!" This is the same old same old story with almost all the "pretty girls." You see, in this world, there are actually not that many beautiful women who look pretty without makeup. What is my point? What ever I want it to be. Parich
thats beautiful acai... way to look at it in a positive way, be the change, right? Noelle
Take this pin for what it is: Simply an opinion which shouldnt be targeted to everyone as the gospel to learn a lesson from. Some people drink to socialize more, but it doesn't mean "drinking is horrendous" and people shouldnt succumb to it. Certain aspects and results of drinking can be ugly, just like makeup marketing and motives behind it's use can be ugly. andy
i never wore make-up... i mean, who needs the shit? make-up is for clowns. joe schmo
"Instead of criticizing wimmin who wear make up, criticize the culture that make wimmin feel like they need it." Umm, Natalie, I think that's what the button is doing. It doesn't say "wimmin who need makeup are stupid hags". It says that make-up is ugly, which I think automatically includes the culture that makes women feel they need it. Jenn
If you don't agree with the pin, you don't have to buy it... but I have this because it makes me sad to see all of my friends succumb to covering up their "blemishes" and "defects" because they don't think they are conventionally attractive. Plus powdery shit feels horrible. Rachel
I've got a lot of femme friends that have a great analysis of gender/roles and still wear make up...because they want to, not because they're told to. simmer
I gave up makeup for lent; after thinking about how we women become somewhat dependent of it. Men too, have become accustomed to seeing us all "pretty" with shit on our face. It's sad we sometimes feel dependent on products to feel beautiful. daniela
It seems that things like this become dogma. If we don't wear make up, dont have cell phones, and don't shop at Wal*Mart/Starbucks, the revolution will come in like a tsunami, right? Binx
Yeah, makeup is ugly. It's the truth. The cosmetics business is a multbillion-dollar industry based on trying to make women feel they're not good enough as they are. That's damn ugly. Like it or not, one of the most radical things a woman can do is not wear makeup, ever. Jane
I understand the message that we're trying to send with a button like this, but taking such an extreme stance (whether for or against make-up) doesn't seem necessary to me. I sell make-up, but more than that I sell good skin care, healthy tips, and confidence. A woman shouldn't feel like she needs make-up to be pretty - no - but if she does, she shouldn't feel condemned for wearing it. April
It's not necessarily just women that the message of this button goes out to. Yes, mostly women, but I know quite a few men who wear makeup, as well. This button, IMHO, says "I don't think you need makeup to look beautiful. Infact, I think makeup subtracts from your beauty" and it may have a butterfly effect on a woman causing them to realize why they are wearing makeup, and break themselves free of superficiality and female roles. Acai
I get the message of this button, but I am so tired of everyone from every end of the spectrum imposing their ideas of what wimmin should and should not do. Instead of criticizing wimmin who wear make up, criticize the culture that make wimmin feel like they need it. natalie
This button is my motto Orong
