A frightening look at the devastating effects of corporate media retail outlets (can we even really call them bookstores?) on their independent competitors. The film focuses on the vibrant book cultures in Capitola and Palo Alto, CA, and the efforts of booksellers and readers to keep out Borders and Barnes & Noble and save the local bookstores from going under. The tenacity of the booksellers is only rivaled by the frightening conviction of the "big box" representatives, who justify their presence in the community as encouraging a "freedom of choice" for the consumer.
