Twenty-Five Books That Shaped America: How White Whals, Green Lights, and Restless Spirits Forged Our National Identity

by Thomas C. Foster Author

From author of How to Read Literature Like a Professor comes a book that is equal parts entertaining and informative about the works of literature that helped shape America. In a combination of wit and analysis, Foster explains how books such as The Last of the Mohicans, Moby-Dick, My Antonia, The Great Gatsby, and so much more captured an American moment, leading to our perception of nationhood, citizenship, and character. This fun and enriching analysis for anyone who has ever wondered why they've ever had to read that one book in their English classes.

Gad, I guess I have the opposite reaction to the two other comments. I absolutely loved it and highly recommend it. submediatv.com, the group who made it has a film based on the chapter 'Why I Love Shoplifting From Big Corporations' from the same crimethinc book.

Microcosm is a great publisher/distro, but this film sucks ass. Don't order it. I downloaded it when it was first released, and it wasn't even worth the time it took to watch.

I saw this at a touring film festival, and me and my buds found it whack on so mny levels...heterosexist, violence-glorifying, romance-cliche-ing, it just made us feel gross. Highly un-recommended.
