The Portland Trilogy DVD DVD, 41 minutes, 3 shorts (5 oz) $13.00

Three short films packaged together for optimal laughs

My Name is Bradlee, This is My Story is a short spoof about a hippie who moves to Portland and discovers cooperative living and shopping and finds a nice little niche for himself. Shot in super-8 so it has nice warm colors to accentuate Bradlee's warm story.

Hunter Dawson - Andrew Dickson is Hunter Dawson: a loser, postcard distributor trying to create a "catch all" video to sell himself onto reality TV shows. The results are great in that he sadly attempts to appear macho and well-loved when in reality he is a lonely barfly with no friends or love life.

Authographhss.com is a spoof documentary about a company's plan to create a business out of having famous peoples' autographs available for download. It is captured through watching their failed attempts at doing much of anything and watching the interactions between characters tell the story. A great criticism of corporate internet culture and wickedly funny to boot without containing a single joke or any tongue in cheek humor. If you saw startup.com, this is the movie you wanted to see.

Rainbow Man / John 3:16 DVD 70 minutes + 3 shorts! DVD (5 oz) $25.00 $20.00

Did you ever watch sports in the late '70s or early '80s? If you, so probably saw "Rainbow Man" standing in the middle of the camera on the stands shaking his booty, tugging on his mustache, or later on - dropping banners with his wife that read "JOHN 3:16" or "JESUS SAVES". This wildman, who created a celebrity persona for himself through exploiting the loopholes of Television, went on to star in commercials and fund his dreams of stardom - traveling the world attending sporting events and living the high life of the late 1970s. This all took a sudden downward spiral when he discovered Jesus and that led him to holding a cleaning lady hostage for 9 hours and receiving 3 life sentences. This is the best effort at telling his full story and filling in the cracks.

Sam Green (The Weather Underground) also treats us with some bonus shorts - the highlight being one about an early act of film activism: PIE FIGHT '69 about a staged piece of performance art at the SF film festival! The Fabulous Stains is about a soon forgotten Hollywood movie featuring members of The Clash and Sex Pistols that was dropped as soon as it was released. It documents an all female alternative band and is said to represent the period frustration of women in rock better than any other movie.

Overall, this is the most straight forward DVD we've seen from Other Cinema and feel like it well represents the subject matter and makes for a very exciting set of experiences! Watch the trailer!

Sonic Outlaws DVD 87 minutes, DVD (5 oz) $25.00

Within days after the release of Negativland's clever parody of U2 and Casey Kasem, recording industry giant Island Records descended upon the band with a battery of lawyers intent on erasing the piece from the history of rock music.

Craig "Tribulation 99" Baldwin follows this and other intellectual property controversies across the contemporary arts scene. Playful and ironic, his cut-and-paste collage-essay surveys the prospects for an "electronic folk culture" in the midst of an increasingly comodified corporate media landscape. Watch the trailer!

Gleefully Anarchic! Janet Maslin, New York Times

Our sense of the shape of creativity and of originality must always be in question if we are to flourish. Sonic Outlaws does precisely that. Chris Chang, Film Comment

Spectres of the Spectrum DVD 91 minutes, DVD, color and B&W (5 oz) $25.00 $12.50

BooBoo, a young telepath, and her father, Yogi, are revolutionaries pitted against the "New Electromagnetic Order". Their story, set in the year 2007 in a blighted Nevada outpost, is interwoven with a history of the development of electromagnetic technologies, from X-rays to atom bombs, from television to the Internet. An alternate history and reality that parallels the troubles of security and technology in our own lives.

Agitprop genius Craig Baldwin, director of TRIBULATION 99 and SONIC OUTLAWS, returns with his grandest work to date! SPECTRES OF THE SPECTRUM plunders Baldwin's treasure trove of early television shows, industrial and educational films, Hollywood movies, advertisements and cartoons, combining these with live-action footage, no-budget special effects, and relentless narration to generate a wholly original paranoid science-fiction epic.

"At once politically charged and wildly imaginative, this unique extravaganza confirms director Baldwin as an avant-garde superstar". -- Christian Science Monitor

Still We Ride DVD 91 minutes, DVD, color, 2008 (5 oz) $14.99 $12.00

New Version includes a new Fly comic zine about Times Up! and 6 new bonus shorts including "Dooring PSA", "Gears for Fears", "Hit a Frog", "Congestion Pricing", "Unconventional Critical Mass", uncut Chris Carlson Interview, and "Memorial Ride". This action packed documentary is a glimpse into the shocking showdown between the monthly Critical Mass ride and the New York City Police Department in the months after August 2004. It is also a wake up call to all Americans, whether they ride bicycles or simply value the freedom of speech and peaceably assemble.

On Friday August 27, 2004 just days before the start of the Republican National Convention, a massive police operation was underway. By the end of the night 264 people were arrested. It marked one of the largest mass arrests in New York City's history. But that was just the beginning! Still We Ride illustrates the climate of both fear and resilience that gripped NYC's cycling community amidst the ongoing monthly crackdowns. Watch the trailer!

Style Wars DVD 2 DVD set with bonus features (8 oz) $28.00

New York, New York, the big bad early 1980's. Hip-Hop culture, born in the streets of South Bronx in the late 70's, is taking off. The most visual representation of this new culture is graffiti art, and nowhere is it seen more than on the subway cars of the Metropolitan Transit Authority. The graf artists sneak about finding the best spots to "throw up" their tags, while honing their art (and an artform) in the process. This documentary was originally shown on PBS in 1983 and has become legendary in the years that have passed. Filmmakers Silver and Chalfant follow several prominent graffiti artists around to get their take on the craft and the world around them. Interspersed is conversations with Mayor Koch and other authority figures as they fight the graf artists. Ultimately, the city and the MTA win, leaving this visual record the best way to witness those painted cars in all their glory. Vaughn Bode! Watch the trailer!

The Trials of Henry Kissinger VHS 80 minutes, 2002, VHS (7 oz) $20.00 $4.00

From one of my favorite filmmakers, Eugene Jarecki comes this great documentary at an awesome price! Did Henry Kissinger sabotage the 1968 Vietnam peace talks for his own political gain? Did he orchestrate secret bombings of Cambodia without approval from Congress? Did he authorize covert operations - kidnapping and assassination - to overthrow a Chilean President? In a new climate of international justice, this documentary investigates these and other charges. Featuring unseen footage, interviews with Alexander Haig, Brent Scowcroft, and William Safire, and the story of Kissinger's youth - fleeing Nazi Germany to become of the most controversial figures in US History!

Venezuela DVD: Revolution From the Inside Out 85 minutes, DVD (5 oz) $19.99 $15.00

At his release event, director Clifton Ross talked about the oddity and conflict faced by Venezuelan anarchists faced with Chavez as ruler. They said he is heralded in the present but will not be remembered so fondly. This video is a voyage into Latin America's most exciting experiment of the new millennium, exploring the history and projects of the Bolivarian Revolution through interviews with a range of its participants, from academics to farm workers and those living in the margins of Caracas. This introduction to the “revolución bonita” (“pretty revolution”) offers in-depth interviews, unforgettable images and a lively soundtrack that will open new vistas onto this hopeful human project. Wal Mart DVD: The High Cost of Low Prices 97 min, color, DVD (5 oz) $12.95

Robert Greenwald takes you on an extraordinary journey that will change the way you think, feel - and shop. The film dives into the deeply emotoional and personal stories from everyday lives of families and communities struggling to fight the goliath. A working mother is encouraged by her employer, Wal Mart to turn to public assistance to provide healthcare for her two small children. A Missouri family loses its business after Wal-Mart is given over $2 million to open its doors down the road. A mayor struggles to equip his first responders after Wal-Mart pulls out and relocates just outside the city limits. Numerous other small businesses (hardware stores, IGA, etc) tell their stories of invading Wal Marts who uprooted them swiftly and devalued their property. A community in California unites, takes on the giant, and wins!

Most exciting in this doc are the variety of voices who tell the story - activists, Republicans, business owners, experts, CEOs, EPA workers, and politicians. It's thrilling to see how Wal Mart harms even those who favor business and free market capitalism. Watch the trailer and get more info!

We are Traffic / Return of the Scorcher DVD DVD, 88 minutes + 2 bonus shorts (5 oz) $25.00

Ted White's new DVD version includes both bikeumentaries "(We aren't blocking traffic) We Are Traffic!: A Movie About Critical Mass" and "Return of the Scorcher", plus bonus "Revisiting Return of the Scorcher" and "Changing the Mindset: Creating More Livable Cities".

"We Are Traffic!" chronicles the history and development of the "Critical Mass" bicycle movement, one of the most spirited and dynamic social/political movements of the apathetic 90s. In over 200 cities in 14 different countries, Critical Mass has now become a monthly ritual of reclaiming the streets by bicycle activists riding en masse.

With traffic congestion, pollution, and road rage on the rise, growing numbers around the world are advocating for transportation alternatives, and Critical Mass is at the cutting edge of this mindset.

"We Are Traffic!" tracks this leaderless, grassroots movement from its beginnings in San Francisco in 1992 to its spread across the globe. With a radical direct-action approach the participants of Critical Mass are celebrating the bicycle and in turn taking on perhaps the century's most sacred cow: the automobile.

Return of the Scorcher is a half-hour documentary look at bike culture and bike lifestyles around the world with beautiful and inspiring scenes of bike use filmed in China, The Netherlands, Denmark, and the U.S.

In the 1890s, before automobiles ruled the roads, bicyclists were referred to as "Scorchers" because of their blazing speed. A century later, in a world filled with car-related environmental and social problems, Return of the Scorcher discovers an inspired and evolving bicycling renaissance.

This documentary touches on a surprising variety of subjects including romance, rebellion, early feminism, and spirituality - all viewed within the context of bicycling. Return of the Scorcher questions our obsession with "progress" and status and presents a diverse cross-section of cycling visionaries who see the bicycle as a life-affirming vehicle for change.

Who is Bozo Texino? DVD 55 min, black and white, 16mm and Super-8, DVD (5 oz) $20.00

Beginning work around 1982, Bill Daniel set out to explain travelling hobo culture and the origins of the mysterious freight train tag of "Bozo Texino", a person wearing a cowboy hat with a pipe. "Who is Bozo Texino?" is a film study on the 100-year-old tradition of hobo and railworker graffiti. Mostly shot on freight trips across the western US, the film includes interviews with some of the railroad’s greatest graffiti legends: Colossus of Roads, The Rambler, Herby (RIP) and the granddaddy of them all, Bozo Texino. The film also catches some of the socio-economic history of hobo subculture from its roots after the Civil War to the present day. Included are interviews with tramps that Daniel encountered in his travels. The range of the interviews, and the film’s style deal with both the clichés and the harsh realities of tramp life. In researching hobo culture Daniel found the written histories fraught with myth, and was initially frustrated by the apparent lack of verifiable truth to much of the lore. What we are left with is a fascinating little window capturing a slim view of the lifestyle, the nature of tagging, and the mysterious long standing tradition of the seemingly larger-than-life Bozo Texino. Read an interview on Fall of Autumn! and another interview on Cinemad!

Winking Circle DVD 50 minutes + bonus, DVD (5 oz) $20.00

A sonic journey through time and space to discover how we can be our own entertainment rather than seeking entertainment from others! A huge mountain of inspiration and ideas are manifested here for us to learn from and apply to our own lives. Kids in the suburbs building mutant bikes, painting art cars, building giant skate ramps, giving each other funky haircuts, making music, leaping onto leaf piles, and much more. It's an expiramental doctumentary about a group of young people in Uxbridge, Ontario who decided they needed to take their lives into their own hands. Very high production values and great editing lead us on a journey through the world of Benny Zenga and friends! Pretty soon you'll be chanting the wisdom of the three beans - Redeem Everything, Be A Fool, and Create Everywhere!

A new and interesting development with this video is the blatant theft of it's concept and style in a new ad from everyone's least favorite soft drink company, the Coca Cola Corporation. Commodification of DIY art seems almost commonplace, but a blatant theft such as this is disheartening to people like Benny Zenga who work to make a project like this happen, only to have it blatantly ripped off by a multinational.

Personally, I would be much more upset with the local Ad Firm who blatantly stole your idea than with the mindless/creative-void that is Coke... ... Eivade

X Ray Visions DVD: A Look Inside Portland's Legendary X-Ray Cafe Documentary, 68 mins., color, DVD (5 oz) $12.99 $10.00

An in-depth account of one of the most important cultural epicenters in Portland's history, "X-Ray Visions" tells the story of the X-Ray Cafe, an ABC NO RIO/924 Gilman-esque "Nightclub" that hosted bands like Green Day, Crash Worship, Nation of Ulysses, Neurosis, Everclear, Smegma, Poison Idea, and virtually every touring act from '89-'94. Did you ever wonder how Portland appeared on the map as THE epicenter for weird, alternative arts and culture? It was because of the X-Ray - an entirely unique all-ages venue with a true "anything goes" aesthetic--a punk band, a circus act, toddlers banging on things, language classes, 25 cent advice, and a spanking evangelist might all appear on a single bill - and its presence put Portland on the map as a radical, rock and roll kind of town. Comes with a bonus CD soundtrack of former X-Ray regular acts, including Hazel, Dead Moon, Big Daddy Meat Straw, New Bad Things, Unwound, Crackerbash, Frances Farmer Gals, and more! Tightened up editing with a new cover by Sean Tejeratchi (Craphound!)
