Jonathan Spies has been long soliciting us with his zines of prose and artwork which have always reminded me loosely of Keith Rosson (Avow). This issue is a big stand out with a beautiful cover and a placed based concept - writing about New York City. Entries from Cristy Road, Sturgeon (Leftover Crack, Choking Victim), Colin Atrophy, Joey Alone, Sascha Scatter, and many entries from friends or credited only by first name. The stories are mixed and entertaining throughout - setting up a Peanuts style information booth on the street, moving into a squat, and dreams and other substances in the back of the mind. Jonathan's skills as anthologizer are very apparent here. His writing that ties the thing together and in the introduction makes the whole thing make sense. There's even a footnote referencing how Microcosm probably won't distribute this zine! Classic.
