Catalog / Zines / Personal

19c. 21 pages, b&w, 1/2 size (2 oz) $2.00

19c. is Jaimey's account of a year spent reading nothing but 19th Century fiction. This zine is really unique! I can honestly say I've never read another zine about recognizing Napoleon's place in history through his appearance in the fiction of the times, or the illustrations in David Copperfield, and Moby Dick and their usefulness. 19c. is scrappy yet informative, like zines oughta be. If you want to know the dish about individualist philosophy, or Louisa May Alcott, forget cliffnotes and pick up 19c.

28 Pages Lovingly Bound with Twine #13 28 pages, comic sized, offset (6 oz) * OUT OF STOCK *

A carefully crafted and humorous hand done personal zine by a father, philosopher, and buddhist. This is probably the most exciting issue ever. It's blown up to a larger format with the "trim" piece from the printing, being a separate zine telling stories from his partner's work day, and an Amish man falling dead in the checkout line at Kroger. The primary document here talks about pissing out a fire they had, the joys and intracacies of their new hybird car, the similarity of the Cleveland police emblem to a pig, a bit about the difference between love and marriage, and Herbie's (their son) love for trains.

I love this writer! He is funny & brilliant & recently won the UTNE Reader Award for Excellence in zines. He deserves it. Sandra Knauf

30-Hour Sloth #1 50 pages, 1/4 size (2 oz) $2.00

A Canadian perzine written about winter biking, wild yeast, the radical history of Newfoundland, homebrew, rug-hooking diy style, a recipe for coconut hot chocolate, and of course, sloths! The layout is very cute! Lots of handwriting and typewriting and drawings. 30 Hour Sloth also contains instructions for making sourdough and sauerkraut, hot toddies and bread pudding. A very comforting zine in the wintertime.

7 Minutes in Heaven 46 pages, b&w, 1/2 size (2 oz) $2.00

Cait and Erin worked together to create '7 Minutes in Heaven,' a zine of their individual tales of growing up queer in the Christian church. Cait talks about her time at camp as a kid, trying to love the lord, but finding out her attraction to girls made her different. Erin went to winter camp, an equally traumatizing place where she discovered that she didn't really believe in speaking in tongues, but pretended to anyway. They both examine why they were so drawn to Christianity, and why they eventually left the church. This one is equal parts funny and sad. They claim that even though they still carry some of the same issues, they're a lot less emo about it now.

9 1/2 Left #10 28 pages, 1/2 size, copied (2 oz) $1.00

This classic is back after a many year hiatus! Mike writes a personal zine about his life that used to consist of punk rock insanity, drinking, and rabble rousing. Now he's a father who works in a chocolate factory and "got punched in the face by responsibility". Mike's zine has always been painfully honest and emotionally charged and gripping. He really puts his heart out for all to examine. This issue focuses on Cleveland winter, quitting smoking, his dad dying, how to get free food, and Mike's obsession with dinosaurs. In it's heyday it inspired a sea of imitators but it was all well deserved and no one could affectively use his style as well as he did.

Abort #19 52 pages, b&w, 1/2 size (3 oz) $3.00

Two years later, Jonathan Spies brings another beautiful issue of Abort! Full of insightful writing about the good everyday things - roommates, crushes, bikes, 40oz, and amputated body part illustrations. Contributions from both familiar and brand new folks are sure to make you cry, then laugh, then cry again. Definitely check out the latest in punks vs. hippies by Colin Atrophy. And my favorite, Daniel Immerwahr's "Assignations" and his super sleuthy logic puzzle for Jonathan. Get 'em while they're hot.

Abort #20 64 pages, 1/2 size (3 oz) $2.00

Abort #20 is a collection of short bursts of thought from the brain of Jonathan Spies. Ponderousness on such topics as: how guitar players look the coolest when they're doing anything but actually playing, reading Brave New World as an adult, government lists of approved baby names, and how Future Biff meeting Present Day Biff is the same as looking at yourself from the outside-in. Always a good read.

About My Disappearance #2 25 pages, gocco covers, 1/4 size (1 oz) * OUT OF STOCK *

Dave Roche talks about his continuing reality as a person with Crohn's disease. It's an experience that's hard to describe, and Dave does his best to articulate the ups and downs. What it's like to be weak, and unable to rely on your body, what it's like to have flare ups that occur out of nowhere, and how hard it can be to be so reliant on other people. Always super powerful stuff.

About My Disappearance zine 54 pages, 1/4 size, copied (2 oz) $1.00

For years, Dave Roche seemed invincible. He survived on a strict diet of free bread and vegan ice cream from fake coupons. After awhile his health caught up with him though. This zine is about his onset and diagnosis with Crohn's Disease and how it has since affected his life. A powerful document to make us all feel mortal and understand that serious health problems can already be happening in our lives.

Absolutely Zippo Book 420 pages, paperback, 1/2 size (14 oz) $6.00

Robert Eggplant's zine anthology covered in a 1" thick book. Pieces by Larry Livermore, Aaron Cometbus, and many more adding their part to this essential history of East Bay punk rock! This book is great bathroom reading material combining 11 years of Robert's zine. It is rather hard to read in one sitting due to the fact that a lot of the pages are taken from the original zines and there isn't a lot of continuity among pages though it's got a got plenty of gems littered along the way to keep you reading. Essential bathroom reading material!

eggplant will always be an archtype of east bay punk rock, regardless of it's a chat with him outside a music show or reading his impeccable degree ... ur ex

Across Three Decades of Anarchism: A Brief History of the Wooden Shoe 25 pages, b&w, 1/2 size (2 oz) $2.00

James G, a volunteer at the Wooden Shoe bookstore in Philadelphia writes about the history of the store, from it's opening in 1976, to it's current incarnation. It's a really fascinating zine that touches on all kinds of universal themes, like a store's accessibility to the general community and a store's political identity. James has collected the stories of long-time collective members, as well as people who worked there before his time. There are unexpected perils in running a political bookstore. Who could predict that some staff members would become Situationalists and flood the Wooden Shoe because they were "commodifying dissent?" Read all about the store catching fire, running a store on Anarchist ideals, and Anarchist study groups!

Features Erin Tobey, Travis Fristoe, Al Burian, Nate Powell, Mike Taylor, Emil Heiple, Farel Dalrymple, and Meredith Gaydosh. Themes explored include rejection, reading science fiction books, the one-sided conversation next to you on an airline, psychic powers, and and heartbreak. Beautiful. Anarchism and Anarcho-Syndicalism 45 pages, color cover, b&w insides, 1/2 size (2 oz) $2.50

So we're paying attention and it seems what people want more than anything are more pamphlets on Anarchism. With great excitement then we introduce a zine focused on Anarcho-Syndicalism. It's an impassioned defense of the movement against criticism, and of course a scathing look at the State. Contains a good bit of history too, including Socialism and Anarcho-Syndicalism in France, and Anarcho-Syndicalism since the first World War.

And Together We'll Face the World #3 36 pages, screen-printed covers, 1/2 size (2 oz) * OUT OF STOCK *

Moxie is a lot of things, including a boat punk, a video maker, and a zine writer. He's a great writer of the Cometbus-y genre without seeming like a rip off, and pays homage to Crimethinc-like narratives without seeming like a hack. Both of which are really hard to do! Moxie travels, settles down, and shares some stories of years past including a scabies tale. It also turns out his school would reward kids by letting them inside a Money Machine, you know, the booth with the money flying around in it? Hilarious. One of my new favorites.

Apoyo 55 pages, offset-printed, 1/2 size (4 oz) $3.00

A Spanish Language version of Support zine! Cindy enlisted the help of a whole slew of friends to help translate Support into Spanish so it would be available to even more people than before! It's the original zine in its entirety. Here's the original listing for Support in case you haven't seen it: In a time when sexual assault and abuse are an increasing problem; even in so-called radical and punk communities, and when most women have been sexually abused in one way or another, Cindy Crabb (Doris Zine) brings us a document showing ways to prevent sexual violence and support survivors of sexual abuse. The zine helps to define consent, some letters that Cindy has received, listening, talking about sex, power dynamics, comics by Fly, and much more! A crucial resource that reads much like a regular issue of Doris.

Archvision #1 72 pages, 1/2 size, copied (4 oz) $3.00

An inspiring and captivating read from Joshua Ploeg (Behead the Prophet, Mukilteo Faeries, Lords of Lightspeed, and much much more!). Learn about his history and plenty of stories about absurd performance art and band concepts that he acknowledged as a joke and subjected audiences to in Olympia, Seattle, and on tour! Joshua is now a touring vegan chef (see "Thinkin, Stinkin, Rarely Drinkin Microcosm Tour 2006") and we get to learn about all of his post punk roots here. The stories are funny - some successes, some failures, some misunderstood efforts, but it's great to hear about his mom worried people hurting him as the audience piled on him in full costume while singing for Behead the Prophet or the inside joke story behind a flyer design concept. We get to learn how some jokey concepts originated as harmless words on a flyer that transformed into a collaborative band or performance piece. My favorite is the show celebrating all of the characters who frequently attend shows but don't perform themselves to have an opportunity to do something for an audience. A true genius, that Mr. Ploeg.

Avow #21 32 pages, 1/2 size, copied (3 oz) $2.00

Keith is a fabulous storyteller ever and boy does he have stories to tell! Plenty about being broke beyond broke, getting into brawls, taking care of his friends, getting drunk, male privilege, and having guns pointed at him. This issue is another collection of stories and reviews - teaching preteens to play sports in down and out schools, learning the important rule "don't piss where you eat", atrocious kids on the bus, comic book nerds that turn into total thugs, having to live down the poetry that you write ten years prior, and a loose acquaintence dying. Don't get me wrong though, Keith has some knowledge and understanding kicking around his brain, probably from just kicking planet Earth for awhile and he seems to have learned a lot from the hardcore community, doing artwork for Submission Hold, HeartattaCk, Against Me!, and more! A fun read.

Keith is a fabulous storyteller and has stories to tell! Plenty about being broke beyond broke, getting into brawls, taking care of his friends, getting drunk, male privilege, and having guns pointed at him. This issue is a downer issue of stories and reviews - his dad just passed away and his girlfriend broke up with him. There's humor relief moments too - buying the new Tim Armstrong album (with some embarrassment) and going to see an old ancient punk band for free. Don't get me wrong, Keith has some knowledge and understanding kicking around his brain, probably from just kicking planet Earth for awhile and he seems to have learned a lot from the hardcore community, doing artwork for Submission Hold, HeartattaCk, Against Me!, and more!
