Sticker #015: Not a Stupid Rich Kid

Comments for Sticker #015: Not a Stupid Rich Kid

Ya its stupid for rich kids to automaticly to become bad people. + money doesnt equal happiness Rich Kid
I think Vanesa's point is very important: most "rich" kids aren't rich at all; their parents are. And trying to shame them out of privilege as Q suggests won't do anything to solve the problem, but will just offend them. I know most people reading this don't care whether rich kids get offended or not, especially judging by John's comment, but if they are offended they will never take the time to listen to activists and learn what they can do with their privilege and what their responsibilities are to society. If I were a rich kid and saw this bumper sticker, I would probably assume it was implying that rich kids are stupid rather than the intended implication, and that does nothing to solve the problem of ignorant affluence. m
And true, those who do make a mess "just for the hell of it" or to see the janitors pick it up SUCK. But beleive that not all "rich" kids are wasteful. But i will agree that suburbia does have more of these assholes. But not all. Dean
granted, this sticker is stereotyping rich kids as being stupid. however, it is completly justified in the majority of rich kids are, or act stupid. i have met a great deal of rich kids who, though they have intelligence, have no common sense or dumb themselves down. they have no sense of responsibility and waste whatever they do not treasure. i knew someone who threw out his entire restaurant-left overs because the lunch line was selling fries. this kid was one example out of many. most kids throw out their tupper ware because "they have plenty more at home". the thought of cleaning up their own mess appauls them, so they deliberatly make a mess and laugh when the janitors have to clean it up. its exaclty what dustin said, they dont appreciate anything. it was the biggest slap in the face when i moved into america, the collasal waste that occured. i try to spare myself the thought of how many starving people could be saved on what these "stupid rich kids" waste on a day to day basis. and whenever you try and tell them that, they waste more just to spite you beck_me!
"We can never hate the player, we can only hate the game. everybody wants a little taste of anarchy." let's shame the rich and make em uncomfortable. let's make the idea of wanting to be rich unpopular. let's win the hearts and minds of the masses towards what's collectively good for all. let's put to death the pathological idea of accepting a situation where there is a minority of rich people and masses of poor. for elites to win others must lose. rent, interest, profit is all immoral and people who live by those means should be reminded of this fact wherever possible so that hopefully they will one day come over to us on side of truth and justice for all. Q
hear hear! i'm with mel
rich kids suck thats all i've gotta say mel
I would have to say that I think this sticker is implying that the person who dons it is saying "I'm not a stupid rich kid, I am a poor DIY post-suburban kid." Not all kids who come from rich families are stupid, in fact, they are not rich at all, since tiher parents are the ones with the money. I don't think I can support Microcosm anymore. Vanesa
Seems like that's up to you gen. We're all such strong point makers. I'm rich. I was stupid for a while, no one taught me any different, they just gave me money. Snapped out of it. svchost
Hey guys.. it says "not a stupid rich kid"... granted, that may imply that rich kids are stupid. But does the phrase "not a purple rich kid" imply that rich kids are purple? gen
I think someone who puts their money to a good cause and does not take it for granted is not a stupid rich person, they are a smart rich person. andy
I don't understand people's hatred of rich kids. I grew up incredibly underpriveleged, but I would never hold any hostility towards another person simply because of their economic status. I still think this sticker is funny, though. Laura
Awwww, the poor rich kids. Being made fun of by a sticker. Boo hoo. Those poor, unfortunate, sensitive, 2004 Mitsubishi Eclipse driving, private school attending, spoiled little rich kids. My heart bleeds for them. John
I hate yuppies too, but one can be a young urban proffesional & not be rich. It's simply a cliche along the lines of stupid blondes drgn64
Skye, I agree! I only wish that it said what you suggested. Yuppies may be annoying, but they'll only be annoying AND alienated if they see messages like this one. Maybe if they saw something more like the "rich kid, not stupid" one, they would think, and maybe in the process become a little less stupid and annoying themselves. chloe
yuppies suck, but i agree with skye: "I might be a rich kid, but I'm not stupid." would be a much more appropriate message. alison
Kids can't change where they come from, they can actively criticize (or try to give up!) that privelege. You may be rich and not stupid, but you can't be rich and not priveleged. Sorcha
I think sticker is more like "I might be a rich kid, but I'm not stupid." instead of "all rich kids are idiots." Skye
Its not so much bad to have wealth but more as the flaunting of that wealth. Where I live people who have alot of money, don't appreciate how lucky they are. Like their parents buy them a 2003 new car for their first car. The kids don't appreciate it at all. Dustin
Why is it automatically bad to be a rich kid? Bombs Away
